How to Set Up IPTV on Android TV, Android Boxes and Nvidia Shield

Setting it up, step by step

1. Pick the player that matches the room

   This is the first call to make, and it colours everything after it. 2. Launch the Play Store, signed in

   Find it on the home row, or under Apps on the Google TV interface. 3. Install your player, watching the developer name

6. Trim the list to your household

   Hide the country groups nobody opens, pin BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky and the sport you follow, and set the interface language. TiViMate files all of this under Settings, then Playlists. Ten minutes here converts a wall of channels into something the whole house can navigate on a Saturday afternoon.

7. Confirm it works on a live UK feed

   Bring up BBC One or RTE One, check the guide has filled in and reads the right time in GMT or BST, then start a sport channel to see that playback stays put. A Shield or a capable box should report a UHD resolution on a 4K feed. Should one channel stutter while the rest behave, hand that single channel a different decoder in the player settings.

If something will not play

A number of cheap boxes secretly run the phone build of Android, which hides anything flagged TV-only. A cheap box stutters or locks up on busy channels

Boxes with only 1 GB of RAM buckle under the heaviest 4K feeds. Empty the player cache, shut anything running in the background, and set decoding to hardware. If a particular box still cannot cope on sport nights, take that as early warning; a Chromecast with Google TV or a Shield handles the same feeds without complaint.
